Thank you to all who attended this year’s Michigan Music Conference and took part in one of MMEA’s sessions. It was a wonderful time! This year, educators in Michigan presented 74 different sessions, spanning topics from parachutes to books, classroom management to EDM and recorder, as well as music from a wide variety of culture bearers.
For our Thursday pre-conference session this year, MMEA invited Sue Hulsether to join us for a day of dancing! Over 120 music educators from across the state joined in on folk dances, movement, and learning how to teach dancing to students.
Our headliner, Dr. Diane Lange, joined us to discuss audiation, recorders, assessment and cross-curricular teaching. We were thrilled to learn from her and get some wonderful instruction we can take back to our classrooms.
Our Young Composers Concert featured 14 composers from grades 2 to 12. These young musical innovators were chosen from 79 submissions. Compositions were written for a variety of age levels, instrumentation, and number of musicians. Do you have a young composer interested in submitting for next year’s concert? Click here to find out more information.!
Finally, for the first time ever, the MMC featured a Small Ensembles Concert. This year featured three ensembles, The Bloomfield Hills Klezmer Ensemble, The Allendale Xylophonix and The Mattawan Percussion Ensemble. Thank you to these ensembles for participating in our inaugural concert!
Have an idea for next year? We are now accepting submissions for MMC2025. Click here to submit a session, but hurry: the due date is April 26th!
Musically yours,
Melissa Stouffer
